My gear already smells bad. Will this fix it or just cover it?
It fixes it. Gear odor comes from sweat, body oils and grime that build up in padding and fabric over time. Vapor Fresh cleans that buildup out instead of perfuming over it. There's no synthetic fragrance in the bottle, only a light essential oil scent that fades as your gear dries. For gear that's been bad for a while, spray it liberally on all sides and let it dry completely. Repeat for the first few uses, and after that a quick spray after each session keeps it fresh. Remember, keeping your gear fresh is all about prevention, so use Vapor Fresh early and often.
What can I spray this on?
It works on pretty much anything that gets sweaty and can't go in the wash. That includes hockey, football and lacrosse pads, helmets, boxing and MMA gloves, shin guards, skates, cleats, shoes, gym bags and yoga mats. It also cleans home gym equipment like benches, dumbbells, kettlebells, spin bikes and treadmills. On those, spray and wipe dry with a towel. For screens and electronics, spray the towel instead of the equipment.
Does this replace washing my gear?
For gear that can't go in the wash, like helmets, gloves, skates and most pads, this is how you wash it. Jerseys, base layers and anything else that's machine washable should still be laundered. Use Vapor Fresh between washes on pads that only get a deep clean once or twice a season.
Will it stain or discolor light-colored gear?
It shouldn't. The formula is water-based and contains no dyes, bleach or alcohol, and it dries clear without a sticky or slippery residue. It's used every day on white helmets, light-colored pads and gloves. As with any cleaner, spot test a hidden area first on leather, suede or specialty materials.
Can I use my gear the same day I spray it?
Yes! We only recommend air drying purely for comfort because nobody likes putting on wet sports pads. A light mist on gloves or a helmet dries quickly, while heavily saturated pads take longer. The easiest routine is to spray your gear right use and leave it out of the bag to air dry, so it's ready for your next session. Avoid sealing damp gear in a closed bag, which is where gear odor starts.
